What are good brands of upright vacuum cleaners?
I have low plush carpet, and two cats, one that sheds alot! So I need something that has alot of power. Any suggestions?
I have a Hoover WindTunnel that works great on cat hair. It has a filter so dust and dander isn't put back into the air. It works good on carpet and bare floors. I have 4 cats and 3 dogs in the house so I had to have something strong and this does the job.

Get a Dyson or anything that has a good hepafilter on it for that cat dander. Bistle has a good strong sucker, and so does Dirt Devil.

Hoover has been around for a very long time and is the best for the money. Lots of people may feel "Kirby" to be the best and it may come with a lot of accessories but most of them will never be used by most people and the vacuum is very expensive.
Cyclonic vacuums or multiple port vacuums offers the most cleaning power.

I recently bought an Eureka Altima and it is the best vacuum I have ever used. I moved to a new home a few months ago where we have that cheap carpet that sheds worse than fluffy dog in spring. This new vacuum is bag-less, has a hepa filter, and foam filtration. It is very easy to empty, clean, and de-clog after an encounter with my pitiful excuse for carpet. It also has a self-cleaning duster, and a powered brush attachment for doing stairs and risers. And it sucks - in a good way! I plan to adopt a cat after the holidays and am confident the Eureka will have no problem handling the fur issue.
I wanted a dyson but it was way too expensive for my young family, one income, squeeeeeeky budget. My Eureka was under $100.00.

I have bad allergies and I own a Rainbow vacuum. I love it because it sucks all the dirt into a water pan that you dump after you are done. The bad side is that you dump the water after your done. I choose not to dump it down the toilet, which mean every time I vacuum, I have to go outside to the ran down spout to dump my vacuum. I have had the same vacuum for years so they are built well but you have to dump them every time because you don't want them to get moisture in the electrical parts.
